Air Mattresses for Campouts

Air mattresses are the most convenient bedding equipment to bring to your campout this summer. They are very light and easy to pack away in your backpacks as they can easily fold into one compact package. Therefore, each child can have his or her own air mattress in the backpack without much problem. You can just bring a manual air pump to fill the mattress with air at night before bedtime.

We are in the last week before it is officially summer and the kids must be all excitement now about that summer camping you have been talking about in the dining table for some weeks now. They have been looking forward to the trip to the outdoors all winter, planning this or that game they have long been preparing for.

If you have adjustable air mattresses left from last year’s camping, bring them out from the attic and start careful checking of their condition, so you can still do something to repair them if necessary, or to buy new best air mattresses if some of them already are leaking badly and will not hold air anymore.

If some of the portable air mattresses are still repairable maybe you can use some handy rubber sealants that you can easily get from any store selling the items, and fix your old air mattresses as cheaply as possible. Just see to it that you carefully seal all the holes no matter how small, so no air can escape.

You can have an effective way of testing by filling up the adjustable air bed mattresses with air and try to submerge it in water (in your backyard pool perhaps) and see if there are any bubbles of air coming out of it. Any showing of air bubbles indicates a leaking portion and that will need some fixing with the sealant rubber.

After you have determined and marked all the points on the air bed mattresses where the bubbles come out, take out the mattress and dry it up thoroughly first before you apply the sealant. The wet surface may not make the rubber sealant stick effectively.

When you are done with sealing the holes let the repaired holes dry up in the sun thoroughly first. Then fill up the mattress with air for actual testing. Lie on the mattress as if you will be using it for sleeping for a whole night to see if it can carry your weight without its air content decreasing. If it can last the test, then it is still usable for the camping.

If there are too many holes in the air mattress, it might be more practical to get a new one, as the old one may not really last very long. It might just give you problems later when you are out there in the campsite.

There are many air mattresses now on discount sale anyway, and you can just call up the store, or order them online with ease. They will just be too willing to deliver the goods to your address, well ahead of your planned departure for the camping grounds.
